About
Here at the AHS River Restoration Foundation, we are teamed up with Huron Pines which is an organization that takes a broad approach towards improving the health of our Great Lakes region. Huron Pines' goal is to “...teach and instill a conservation ethic in the hearts of people across Michigan and beyond, and to make our communities better places to live, work and enjoy.” Huron Pines gets funding through grants from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Michigan Department of Natural Resources and The Walters Family Foundation.

Fixing Road Stream Crossings
Road stream crossings in Northern Michigan are starting to have negative effects on the wildlife living in the rivers below, and Huron Pines is actively working to fix these problems. The culverts installed at most stream crossings act as a velocity barrier for fish who would like to pass through. Water that flows through these culverts is sped up due to the narrow nature of the pipes, making it nearly impossible for aquatic life to pass through.
Installing New Bridges
What we do to fix these undersized culverts under road crossings is installing new bridges with bigger areas for water to pass through as seen above with the before and after of the Gilchrist Creek road stream crossing.
